Some pedals just wake up on higher voltage — more headroom, a brighter top end, and a snappier, less squashed response. The Xotic XVD-1 gets you there without hunting down a dedicated power brick. It’s a step-up converter that takes a standard 9V DC source and boosts it to either 15V or 18V DC, with a max current draw of 80mA.
Wire it into your existing power chain ahead of the pedal you want to open up, flip the switch to 15V or 18V, and you’re set. On Xotic’s own circuits — the Bass BB Preamp and Bass RC Booster in particular — that voltage bump translates into noticeably more low-end headroom and cleaner articulation, which bass players tend to appreciate right away. Overdrives and boosters on your board can benefit similarly, trading a bit of compression for added dynamics and sparkle.
The XVD-1 is built to deliver that boosted voltage cleanly, keeping noise out of the signal path so the only thing that changes is headroom and tone — not hiss.
