Description
The BBE 427 is a distortion pedal built for players who want tone with torque. Designed by Paul Gagon — the engineer behind pedals for some of rock’s biggest names — the 427 channels his signature LED-based distortion circuit, first proven in the BBE Blacksmith, into a stompbox with a decidedly American growl.
At the heart of the 427 sits a continuously sweepable EQ section (CSEQ) modeled after an early-’70s Big Muff Pi, giving you far more tonal range than a standard tone knob. Dial it toward glassy and cutting, or push it into thick, mid-scooped fuzz territory — the 427 covers a wide swath of gritty ground, from crunchy rhythm tones to sustained lead saturation, making it a strong candidate for the front of a signal chain where a distortion pedal needs to react to pick dynamics.
Build quality backs up the attitude. A mil-spec circuit board with heavy signal traces, 1% metal-film resistors, and high-voltage poly caps keeps the tone consistent and the reliability high, so it won’t quit on you mid-set. When you want your clean tone to pass through untouched, the true hardwire bypass gets out of the way completely.
