Description
The Ecstasy Red Mini condenses the fire of Bogner’s Red channel into a small enclosure without shortchanging the tonal range that made the full-size version a backline staple. Expect the same lineage: aggressive, saturated crunch that scales up into ripping high-gain lead tones, voiced for players who dig into their amp rather than tiptoe around it.
What sets this apart from a typical overdrive box is the interaction between controls. Gain and Volume get you into the ballpark, but the active Bass, Middle, and Treble stack lets you sculpt the EQ curve rather than just tilt it — and a bottom-mounted trim pot shifts the midrange frequency center for further fine-tuning. The Pre-Eq switch (B1, N, B2) dials in how open or focused the upper harmonics sound, while the Mode switch toggles between the basic Red channel voice and a boosted variant for extra push into solos.
A standout feature is the Variac switch, which introduces a dropped-voltage style compression — the same sag-and-bloom feel players chase from amps run below their rated line voltage. Reinhold’s internal circuitry actually steps voltage up beyond the 9V input, giving the pedal a wider dynamic range and a feel closer to the source amplifier’s tube behavior than a standard stompbox.
Runs strictly on a 9VDC power supply — there’s no battery compartment, so plan your power routing accordingly.
