Description
DOD’s Overdrive Preamp 250 has been snarling on pedalboards for over four decades, and the 2013 revamp doesn’t soften that history — it just makes the pedal easier to live with. The analog circuit still delivers the same wild, grinding character that made the original a workhorse, but now it’s housed in a lighter aluminum chassis with a sleek yellow metallic flake finish and matte black bottom.
Two of the biggest upgrades happen behind the scenes. True bypass means your dry tone stays untouched when the pedal is off — a real departure from the original, which colored your signal even in bypass. And swapping to a standard 9V DC power supply jack makes it a much easier fit on a modern pedalboard rig, no more relying solely on a battery.
The control set is simple and direct. Gain shapes how much distortion you’re working with, from a light edge of grit to full-on grind. Level handles output, letting you dial in a subtle boost for always-on use or stack on serious volume to push solos above a busy mix. A DOD-approved trick: drop the Gain all the way down and crank the Level for a clean, cutting boost during leads.
