The Soul Food exists because Mike Matthews got tired of hearing players rave about a certain famously overpriced transparent overdrive they could barely afford. Rather than chase the hype, EHX built its own take on that circuit topology and made it accessible to working musicians instead of collectors.
Transparency is the whole point here. Drop it into your chain and it doesn’t slap a new tone on top of your rig — it thickens up what’s already there, letting your guitar and amp’s natural character shine through the added saturation.
