Description
The “1” is Mad Professor’s tribute to one of rock guitar’s most imitated tones: that hugely saturated yet articulate distortion associated with a clean amp pushed into legendary territory. Rather than mudding out at high gain, it holds onto note definition, so chords stay readable even when you’re deep into the drive.
- Gain sweeps from moderate crunch to heavy distortion, and because the input impedance is tailored for guitar-volume-knob control, you can clean up or dirty up the tone right from your instrument. Note: running a buffer or buffered pedal ahead of the “1” will reduce this interactive behavior.
- The Brown knob is the heart of the voicing — it shapes the harmonic overtones that define this sound, working alongside the Presence control to dial the pedal into whatever pickups and amp you’re running.
- A built-in Reverb section, modeled on the studio ambience heard on classic 80s recordings, adds depth without smearing your timing — decay is preset to stay out of the way of your playing, with internal trimmers available for adjusting decay time and tone to taste.
Placed after your other gain stages or run alone into a clean amp, the “1” is built for players chasing a specific, historic tone rather than a generic distortion — a solid anchor for boards built around vintage-inspired drive and ambience.
