Description
The Phase 90 is the pedal that defined what a phaser should sound like, and MXR’s ’74 Vintage version goes straight back to the source. Instead of a modern reproduction, this build uses a hand-wired board with select resistors paired to hand-matched FETs, reconstructing the same warm, smooth sweep that came out of the original 1974 units. The result is a phase modulation that feels organic and musical rather than clinical — thick where you want body, glassy where you want shimmer.
- Hand-wired circuit board for authentic vintage character
- Select resistors paired with hand-matched FETs
- Classic orange enclosure with the original MXR script logo
- Single-knob control for fast, no-fuss dialing
On the board, this pedal earns its keep as a one-knob problem solver. Drop it early in your signal chain, ahead of overdrive or fuzz, and it thickens up single-coil bite or smooths out humbucker growl without stepping on your tone’s low end. Push it into faster settings for a more pronounced, vocal-like wobble, or keep it subtle for a background shimmer that adds dimension to clean arpeggios and sustained chords alike. It’s the same phase texture that’s shown up on countless classic recordings, and the reason it’s remained a pedalboard staple for decades — simple to use, immediate in feel, and built to just work every time you step on it.
