Description
The Tsar Bomba takes the classic Muff formula and rebuilds its noise floor and output stage from the ground up. It runs 15dB quieter than a stock Muff circuit at rest, so it won’t hiss and hum through your rig between hits, but flips the script when engaged — delivering 5dB more output on tap for real presence in a live mix.
Muff circuits have a well-earned reputation for sounding massive alone in a bedroom, then vanishing the second a bassist and drummer show up. Union Tube & Transistor addressed that head-on with an original tone stack design built specifically for precision. Instead of the usual broad, scooped EQ, you get finer control for carving a frequency window that lets your guitar sit forward in a dense arrangement without losing the fuzz’s saturated character.
- Muff-style fuzz circuit, reworked for lower noise and higher output
- 15dB quieter at idle than a standard Muff
- 5dB louder output when engaged
- Custom tone circuit for precise mix-carving EQ shaping
- Current draw: 12mA
Placement-wise, treat it like any Muff-derived fuzz: early in the chain, ahead of modulation and time-based effects, so the saturated harmonics it generates get shaped rather than smeared by downstream delay or reverb. Great for players who love Muff-style fuzz but need it to hold its own on a crowded stage rather than just filling silence at home.
