Description
The Xotic BBP-Comp takes the compression circuit developed for the AC-Comp and grafts it onto the DNA of the brand’s two most revered drive pedals. Rather than forcing you to choose between the BB Preamp’s smooth push and the Andy Timmons BB-AT’s thicker gain, this Custom Shop build lets you select the character of compression feeding your distortion stage — or bypass it entirely for a raw, uncompressed signal.
Set the switch to standard and you’re in familiar BB-Preamp territory: touch-sensitive, amp-like breakup that cleans up beautifully with your guitar’s volume knob. Flip to the heavier setting and the tone shifts toward the AT-inspired voicing, with denser sustain and a more saturated top end for lead work. Kill the compression altogether and the pedal opens up into a more dynamic, transparent drive that tracks pick attack directly. On a pedalboard, that flexibility means one enclosure can cover the job of two classic overdrives plus a dedicated compressor stage — handy for players tight on space who still want distinct tonal personalities within reach of a single footswitch.
Built to Xotic’s usual standard, the BBP-Comp runs true bypass so it stays out of your signal path when off, and it’s compact enough to tuck into a crowded chain ahead of modulation or time-based effects.
