The ZVEX Mastotron isn’t a one-trick fuzz box — it’s a five-knob laboratory for building your own strain of silicon distortion. Beyond the usual volume and gain, you get three controls rarely seen on a fuzz pedal: source impedance, subs, and pulse width. Together they let you dial in everything from a smooth, saturated growl to a splintered, gated snarl, with the low end reinforced or stripped away as needed.
Source impedance control changes how the fuzz circuit reacts to your instrument’s output, letting you push the front end into different flavors of clipping. The subs knob adds or subtracts sub-harmonic weight underneath the fuzz, useful for thickening a guitar tone or keeping a bass line from turning into mud. Pulse width shapes the character of the clipped waveform itself, opening up textures from vintage-fuzzy to aggressively square and buzzy.
This flexibility makes the Mastotron equally at home on a guitar board or a bass rig.
