The ARP-87 isn’t a one-trick delay — it’s four distinct echo characters living under one footswitch, each with its own personality for different spots in your chain. Flip between algorithms and you get an entirely new engine, not just a filtered version of the last one.
- Digital — clean, precise repeats that stay out of the way of tight rhythmic riffing
- Analog — softens edges and adds warmth behind chords and single-note lines
- Lo-Fi — an adjustable frequency window on the repeats, ranging from warped and murky to full AM-radio grit
- Slap Back — instant rockabilly/chicken-pickin’ snap
The X knob is context-aware: in Digital, Analog, and Slap modes it drives modulation depth, while in Lo-Fi mode it controls filter width instead. Note that switching algorithms loads a fresh engine, so you’ll need to re-tap your tempo each time.
Smart bypass switching lets you choose trails or no-trails behavior — hold the footswitch while powering up to toggle between the two, letting repeats ring out naturally or cut cleanly on bypass. Momentary functions add expressive control: hold the bypass switch pre-engagement for a quick burst of delay texture, or hold it while active to ramp the X parameter to max. Hold the Tap switch at any time to spike feedback to maximum, then release to snap back.
Housed in a diecast enclosure finished in Frosted Charcoal with cream and seafoam artwork by Chris Castro, the ARP-87 measures 4.77″ x 2.6″ x 1.39″ and runs on 9VDC (100mA minimum). Walrus Audio recommends an isolated power supply — skip the daisy chain for this one.
